Permanent URI for this collectionhttps://hdl.handle.net/2152/84240
The BiblioNoticias series is an ongoing subject-oriented bibliography to which several new issues are added each year. The series is compiled by staff members at the Benson Latin American Collection and, except where otherwise noted, all materials cited are available in this library. Individual issues in the series address specific subject areas which are considered likely to be of interest to researchers within the field of Latin American Studies. Consequently, although the BiblioNoticias series is collection-specific (i.e., referring only to materials available at the Benson Latin American Collection), it is nonetheless a useful guide for any person wishing to find some initial bibliographic landmarks within a given subject area.

Item The Anti-Immigrant Backlash: Selected Sources(Benson Latin American Collection, 1996-03) Gutiérrez, MargoSince the beginning of the 1990s, the ongoing public debate on immigration has reached new levels resulting in resurgent nativism, along with efforts to withhold public services to immigrants and better regulate movement along the U.S.-Mexico border. The works cited below reflect various viewpoints and represent only a small sampling of the vast body of literature relating to recent immigration from Mexico, its perceived effects on the United States economy and society, and nativist perspectives spawned by the debate.Item Argentine Art: Selected Sources(Benson Latin American Collection, 1999-03) Gutiérrez-Witt, LauraArgentina is a major center for Latin American art where artists thrive, particularly in the vibrant and active cultural milieu of Buenos Aires, but also in the provincial capitals. Known and appreciated around the world, Argentine artists of the twentieth century have consistently absorbed global artistic trends without losing their national identity. Printed works about art and artists are produced by many Argentine publishers: museums, galleries, academic institutions, commercial publishers, and government agencies. This bibliography complements BiblioNoticias no. 94, "Latin American Art: Selected Sources," which lists the more general reference sources covering all or major regions of Latin America. Both bibliographies should be consulted in order to compile a more complete listing of sources on Argentine art.Item Blacks in Latin America and the Caribbean: Selected Bibliographic Sources(Benson Latin American Collection, 1990-03) Gibbs, DonaldThe contributions of Blacks have significantly enriched Latin American culture, society and economic development. All titles cited are located in the Benson Latin American Collection.Item Brazilian Statistics: Selected Sources(Benson Latin American Collection, 1998-09) Hartness, AnnThe following publications were selected to provide a broad thematic variety of statistical sources related to Brazil. AlexandraCentral Americans constitute a rapidly growing segment of the population in Mexico and the United States. Their presence has become more apparent since the early 1980s when several hundred thousand Guatemalans, Nicaraguans and Salvadorans fled war-torn Central America. To date very few studies have been done on the acculturation of Central Americans into American society; instead their concentrate on immigration policy, migration, and refugees. Much of the governmental effort has been directed toward petitioning for inclusion in trading blocs such as NAFTA and MERCOSUR, while Chilean business entourages have toured the U.S. on a city-by-city basis seeking to stimulate interest in U.S.-Chilean business collaborations. Both this eagerness to participate in the global economy and Chile's relative stability in the aftermath of the Mexican peso devaluation of December 1994 have further improved perceptions abroad. This bibliography is intended to provide a broad sampling of recent materials pertaining to business in Chile. The majority of materials cited herein are located in the Benson Latin American Collection stacks with a few exceptions as noted.Item Christopher Columbus: The Recent Literature(Benson Latin American Collection, 1992-09) Gutiérrez-Witt, LauraChristopher Columbus became a public-and controversial-figure the moment his letters of February and March 1493, giving an account of his voyage to the Indies were read by Europeans. Almost immediately, contemporary writers began to write about the mysterious Genoese, his achievements and his motives. Since the 16th century, the Columbian bibliography has grown by many titles, some written to coincide with an anniversary of Columbus's first voyage, others when newly discovered documentation has revealed unknown facts. The 500th anniversary in particular has stimulated the production not only of new biographies and translations but also of bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, novels, poetry, operas, plays, motion pictures, and children's books.
