The Daily Texan

Permanent URI for this collection

The Daily Texan was known as The Texan prior to 1913. We have most/all issues from 1900-08/2019 available online. To search for a specific issue date, use the “Search within this collection” box above, and enter the date as YYYYMMDD. For example, search “19500818” to return the August 18th, 1950 issue. To browse a range of dates, click on Date Issued under This Collection on the right side navigation menu or Date Issued underneath the Browse By menu at the top. You can then choose a year from the drop down menu or type in a year (recommended). The dates listed in the drop down menu are hard coded into the software and do not necessarily indicate the dates available in the collection. In the date browsing results, issues should be listed chronologically. Due to a bug in the search function, if you want to switch to looking at a different year you'll need to click on Date Issued under This Collection and start fresh.

There is very limited descriptive information available for individual issues except via the full-text. You can search the scanned text by typing your search terms in the blank box above the Daily Texan logo. Please note that this system combines terms with OR instead of AND. That means you will get many results from your search and not everything will be relevant. If the term itself is important, we recommend using quotation marks around that term to search for an exact match. Example: "intramural tennis". The optical character recognition (OCR) is sometimes a bit messy due to the formatting of the original and quality of the scan so it may be difficult to find your search terms within the document.
