Item Mexican children's perception of cultural specificity in American cartoons(2005-05-21) Cornelio Marí, Elia Margarita; Kackman, MichaelThis thesis combines elements of industrial and textual analysis along with reception studies to explore how children from Tabasco, Mexico, perceive cultural specificity in the American animated series Dexter’s Laboratory. The results present a complex picture of the reception moment, showing that children apply diverse strategies to make sense of culturally distant references in the cartoon. Issues of cultural adaptation and international trade of animation are also addressed
