Description

The purpose of this study is to trace the origin and development in the state of Texas of that type of education generally termed "vocational." The definition of this term accepted by Congress and the 48 states under the Smith-Hughes Law has seemed to indicate the general limitations of the field. In the bibliography an attempt has been made to list all materials of outstanding importance bearing directly upon the subject of vocational education. For this purpose may be mentioned, the manuscript sources, among these many personal letters to the writer; the acts and journals of the legislature of Texas, school catalogues, circulars, and official reports; educational periodicals; histories of Texas; Texas newspapers covering from 1829 to 1929; and the reports of the United States Bureau of Education, Department of Agriculture and the Federal Board for Vocational Education
