This article from the website “No a la Mina” describes broken promises to citizens on the part of the government in order to allow mining in Jujuy. It claims that the removal of contamination from Abra Pampa was only for show. It describes the history of inaction on the part of the government to protect the inhabitants of Abra Pampa, claiming that a study done in 1986 proving there was lead in the inhabitant’s blood was ignored. It mentions Law 4523, which meant to help with the problem of lead poisoning, and says that the law had no effect. It describes how politicians emphasize that the region of “La Puna” is a desert, yet the mine “Mina Pirquitas” uses more than 3 million liters of clean water per day.
