Abstract

Traditionally, men are considered to have an advantage over women in sports. However, electronic gaming or eSports, where physical attributes are not as necessary, are still divided by gender. ESports is a growing industry. However, despite the fact that computers, game consoles, and even virtual reality technology have been introduced to appeal to genders equally, the majority of players still tend to be men. This research addresses male dominance in the eSports industry and examines strategies to encourage more female participation. Through a grounded theory analysis, this study explores the essential differences between the genders in gaming and introduces solutions for improved recognition of eSports and video games among women. The study concludes with a recommendation for constructing an enhanced environment for eSports players.
