Description
The effort made in this study to trace certain indications of imperialism in the early expansion of the United States has been largely confined to diplomatic affairs and particularly to the views, motives and actions of the more prominent actors. Most phases of the general subject have been dealt with in some detail by scholars, in monographic works and articles. The writer has endeavored to bring together chronologically the principal events pertaining to early expansion and the things which, in his opinion, seem to show that the American nation has been from its birth increasingly imperialistic
