Description

It is the problem of this study to determine the direction in which American education is moving in so far as state and national activities and relationships are concerned. The problem deals with the establishment of clarity in the matter of national policy. The principle of federal intervention in education involving support and control is one of the most important phases of this study. It is proposed to examine in this study authoritative literature and records which include laws, congressional debates, achievements, and changes effected by the nation in the field of education during the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, President of the United States from March 4, 1933 to April 12, 1945. It is proposed to examine the reports of the United States Office of Education, the Department of Interior of the United States, and related reports, pamphlets, periodicals, and book accounts. The budgetary expenditures of the United States are also included. This investigation seeks to determine the nature and extent of the participation of the Federal Government in education during the defined period
