The bearing strength of bolted connections

Thirty bolted symmetrical butt splices were tested to evaluate the effects of bearing ratio and lateral confinement on bearing type bolted connections. Net cross section failure, bearing failure, and end tearout failure were examined, and the load versus deflection relationship and general specimen behavior were used to form recommendations for both defining and predicting failure in bearing type bolted connections.
