Item Freedom from control(2018-06-19) Wolf, Hannah Jo Ingram; Sanchez, K. J.This thesis examines my directing and leaderships tactics during my time as an MFA in Directing candidate at the University of Texas at Austin and while leading three productions: The Bigot (William Glick), Dry Land (Ruby Rae Spiegel) and ENRON (Lucy Prebble). I will chart my evolving leadership practices and discuss how tactics that fit the masculine/feminine, powerful/powerless and control/freedom binaries are from a dated and male-coded hierarchical directing practice. This document envisions a new way of directing that moves from power to authentic authority and from being in control to being in charge.Item Nearer heart’s desire : theatre, directing and the process of cultural deconstruction and reconstruction(2019-05-09) Sussman, Adam Lubetsky; Sanchez, K. J.There are two great passions that run through my life: making theatre and examining how our society’s culture impacts our lives. This pursuit stems from a desire to identify and change the inequities embedded in our culture. As an artist and activist, I create theatrical experiences that redefine familiar narratives and their contexts, providing opportunities to re-examine our prejudices and cultural beliefs. In this thesis, I will analyze selected productions I’ve directed while attending the University of Texas at Austin in order to define my process for making work engaged in cultural deconstruction and reconstruction
