Item (Vol. 01, 1998-05) Pavonia Paneroi (Malvaceae) A New Species From Puebla, Mexico(1998-05) Fryxell, Paul A.A new shrubby species of Pavonia (Malvaceae) from Puebla, Mexico is described and placed in taxonomic context within the genus. Its nearest ally is P. chlorantha from the states of Guerrero and Mexico.Item (Vol. 02, 1999-12) A Taxonomic Treatment of Sida Sect. Ellipticifoliae (Malvaceae)(1999-12) Siedo, Stephen J.A taxonomic treatment of Sida L. sect. Ellipticifoliae Fryxell is presented in which eight species and two varieties are recognized. Brief descriptions, a key to species, distribution maps, illustrations, and notes on ecology, etymology, typification, and species relationships are included. Sida infiexa Fernald is reduced to synonymy under S. elliottii Torr. & A. Gray, S. rubromarginata Nash is resurrected in light of new characters, and S. elliottii var. parvifiora Chapm. is broadly redefined.Item (Vol. 04, 2001-12) A New Species of Sida Sect. Ellipticifoliae (Maly Aceae)(2001-12) Siedo, Stephen J.A new species of Sida sect. Ellipticifoliae, Sida floridana, is described and accommodated in a revised key to the section. Additional notes are provided on selected taxa as an update to the most recent treatment.Item (Vol. 05, 2002-12) An Abutilon Nomenclator (Malvaceae)(2002-12) Fryxell, Paul A.The large malvaceous genus Abutilon is in need of critical revisionary study. The present nomenclator is presented as a first step toward such an eventual study, and it will also be useful to herbarium curators. It brings together, on a global basis, more than 500 names in specific rank, a number of names in infraspecifi crank, and 25 names in infrageneric rank, giving bibliographic detail and typification information for each name as far as it is available. More than 70 lectotypes and two neotypes are designated herein. Five new combinations are included, viz., Bakeridesia scabrida, Bastardiopsis grewiifolia, Bastardiopsis turumiquirensis, Corynabutilon Xsuntense, and Tetrasida tulla. Indexes are provided for the newly designated lectotypes and neotypes.Item (Vol. 06, 2003-12) Andeimalva, a New Genus of Malvaceae from Andean South America(2003-12) Tate, Jennifer A.A new genus, Andeimalva, is described to accommodate four species previously placed in Tarasa and Malacothamnus. The taxonomic placement of the Chilean species M. chilensis in the primarily North American genus has been questioned for nearly 40 years. This species occurs in the Andes of central Chile, unlike the rest of the genus, which is distributed in California, Baja California, and Mexico. Molecular phylogenetic data revealed the strongly supported relationship of Malacothamnus chilensis to the Andean species Tarasa machupicchensis, T. mandonii, and T. spiciformis. The latter species share with M. chilensis the unusual base chromosome number of x = 6, which is not found in other members of Tarasa or other closely related genera (x = 5), or the North American Malacothamnus (x = 17). Considering the phylogenetic and chromosome data, as well as morphology and geography, these four species form a clade that merits generic status and are recognized at generic rank.Item (Vol. 07, 2004-12) A New Species of Mortoniodendron (Malvaceae Sens. Lat.) from the Rain Forests of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Mexico(2004-12) Dorr, Laurence J.; Wendt, TomThe taxonomic history, defining characters, and relationships of the genus Mortoniodendron are briefly sketched. Characters that define M. pentagonum, a species known from a limited area in Guatemala, are elaborated. A closely related but distinct species from Veracruz, Mexico, M. uxpanapense Dorr & T. Wendt, is described and illustrated. The new species is considered to be Critically Endangered (CR) under the IUCN red list classification.Item (Vol.10, 2007-12) Two New Species of Malvaceae from Sonora, Mexico and Texas(2007-12) Fryxell, Paul A.Batesimalva stipulata is described from Sonora, Mexico (Mpio. de Alamos) and Wissadula parvifolia from Texas (Hidalgo County). The positions of both species in their respective genera are discussed, and keys are provided for the distinction of the new species from their congeners.Item (Vol.12, 2009-12) A New South American Subsection of Sida Sect. Nelavaga (Malvaceae) with Two New Species(2009-12) Fryxell, Paul A.Sida [sect. Nelavaga] subsect. Conglomerata is described as a new subsection of the genus, including eight species from South America. Two of the eight are newly described: Sida calva and S. florulenta. The group is characterized by having flowers and fruits borne in axillary glomerules.Item (Vol.12, 2009-12) Abutilon Ulbrichii, a New Name in the Malvaceae(2009-12) Fryxell, Paul A.A new name, Abutilon ulbrichii, is proposed to replace the later homonym Abutilon longipes Ulbr. for a South American species (non A. longipes Mattei from Africa).Item (Vol.15, 2012-12) Notes On Wissadula (Malvaceae), With the Description of Two New Species(2012-12) Fryxell, Paul A.Some historical considerations concerning the identity of Wissadula stellata (Cav.) K. Schum., ectotypifications of Sida stellata Cav. and W. fuscorosea Ulbr., the description of two new species (W. ecuadoriensis and W. macrocarpa), and the discussion of the legitimacy of a name widely but incorrectly used in Wissadula Medik., W. macrantha R.E.Fr., nom. illegit., are presented.Item (Vol.17, 2014-12) A New Species of Mortoniodendron (Malvaceae sens. lat.) from Chiapas, Mexico(2014-12) Ishiki, Mario; Wendt, TomThe new species Mortoniodendron ocotense is described from northwestern Chiapas, Mexico, where it is a locally abundant tree on karst substrates in seasonal evergreen rain forest. It falls within a group with five previously described species, of which the most closely related is M. uxpanapense. A simplified key to the six species is presented.
