Item Marginalized Children in Brazil: Selected Sources(Benson Latin American Collection, 1993-03) Hartness, AnnA major Brazilian social problem--marginalized children--has been the focus of international attention in recent years. Media stories have focused on the homeless and abandoned children and teenagers who live on the streets in cities throughout the country, often engaging in theft, assault, or prostitution, and sometimes meeting violent deaths at the hands of the police or vigilantes. Millions of other children, living in families in conditions of extreme poverty, can also be termed marginalized, and the distinction between the two groups is not always clear. Although this bibliography emphasizes street children, many of the publications apply to all who are marginalized in the broader sense. The following selected materials are available at the Benson Latin American Collection.
