No one seems to fear th at any noticeable number o f those who cast vote their ballots will against the amendment. There is greater danger th a t the re quired number of votes will not I>e cast. One of these am endments is necessary for the future welfare of the most im portant group of student activities, n group of s tu dent activities th a t advertises the University better than any other medium, and consequently is intimately connected with the growth of the University. To this amendment fail would Im- to hamper the develop ment of the whole institution. to pass The men who have influence among the students now have an opportunity of using that in fluence to good adv antag e; the rm-n who are loyal to their Alma Mater should not on this occasion fail to show’ their loyalty. Lit tle argument is necessary to show’ a student how imperative it is that the amendment to raise the blanket tax be passed, but many reminders m ay be neces sary to get him to go to the polls. I.et all of us remind as many as we can. A comparatively large number of votes were polled in the recent election of student officers. There is not the interest of p artisan ship connected with this ballot. There is only the interest in the welfare of our collegiate ath let ics— in the welfare of the U ni versity. Let us prove th a t in te r est is of sufficient strength to result in a much larger vote than fifty per cent of the student body. Talk about the election; make the other fellow see its im port ance ; let u- see how near we can get to a hundred per cent vote. STUDENT HONORS. During the S pring term many students are repaid for a great amount of hard work by election to different kinds of honorary fraternities. It m ay be said th a t these students would do ju st as good work in these fields if the honorary fratern ities did not ex ist. but however th at may be, it can not be denied that a fte r they have done good work, they appreciate this w’ay of recogniz ing it. It is also tru e th at many w’ho receive honors do not de serve th e m ; there is some poli tics connected w ith the confer ring of nearly all our honors. It is a1 o to be admitted th a t many who do exceptional work receive no th a t honor is not always paid where it is due. But for the most part the men and women who were elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Sig ma Delta Chi, Sigma Upsilon, and similar organizations are men who have done work in their respective fiefs th at was notably above the average. recognition; In our opinion these men and women should look upon their honors not only as rewards but i also as goads. Too often we see j someone “make’' several organ-! catio n s and honor societies ini his sophomore and junior years. who later does w’ork is neither creditable to himself nor th a t to the society of which he is a (] member.
