J u s t what will happen to The Daily Texan the discipline if committee holds to its original decision is not known. The edi tor-in-chief will be dismissed, and the managing editor will suffer the same penalty. Ap parently the only thing th a t can be done will be to close up the office and suspend publication until one of the two are re-in st ated in the University. Tulane is scheduled to debate the University of Texas here next Monday night. One of the Texas speakers has been reliev ed of this duty by the discipline committee’s action. A substi tu te debater has been appointed — one who has, up to this time, studied the negative side of the compulsory arb itratio n question and will speak on th e a ffirm a tive side Monday night in the House of Representatives. and three young men—promi nent in their respective lines— have been branded indelibly by the faculty discipline commit tee. Their offenses were the same as th a t committed by the editor of The Texan—connection with the traditional April the first Blunderbuss. The penalties have been an nounced, but the discipline com mittee is reconsidering the four cases. W hat th e ir final decis ion will be is, of course, un known. However, it is certain th a t some punishment will be dealt to the men involved. The Texan, speaking as the student organ, and not as the in dividual mouthpiece of one of the so-called culprits believes th at it expresses student opin ion when it says th a t the action committee is of th e discipline held in disfavor. The petitions declaring the penalties too se vere show this to be a fact. Leniency is therefore asked and expected. At least two of the men have appeared before the committee and have re-ex- plained their positions and have petitioned for clemency. The Texan, as does hundreds of s tu dents, asks th a t such action be taken a t the committee meeting Tuesday. The war situation is critical. Unless the Allies fight as they never yet have fought, defeat threatens. Hungry men cannot fight at their best; nor hungry nations. France, England, and Italy are going hungry unless we feed them. W h eat S a v in g s— They must have wheat. It is the best food to fight on. It is the easiest to ship. We alone can spare it to them. By saving just a little— less than a quarter of what we ate last year— we can support those who are fighting our battles. And w e can do it without stinting ourselves. We have only to substitute another food just as good. T h e Corn o f P len ty— Corn is that food. There’s a surplus of it. Providence has been generous in the hour of our need. It has given us corn in such bounty as was never known before. Tons of corn. Train loads of corn. Five hundred million bushels over and above our regular needs. All we have to do is to learn to appreciate it. Was ever patriotic duty made so easy? And so clear? A m erica ’s O w n F ood— Corn I It Is the true American food. The Indians, hardiest of races, lived on it. Our forefathers adopted the diet and conquered a continent. For a great section of our country it has blong een the staff of life. About how good it is? About the many delicious ways of cooking it? And what you miss by not knowing more about it?
