They are open for competition to men and women graduates of Syra­ cuse U niversity, or of any other col­ lege or university of good standing, who have shown notable efficiency in the department in which they wish to study. Candidates must send certified rec­ ords of their college standings, if they . are from other institutions, and all should provide statem ents and cre­ dentials from the men tinder whom they have worked. The holder of a fellow ship m ay be working for the M aster's or Doctor's degree and is expected to devote one- h alf tim e to study ami one-half to assistin g in the departm ent to which he is appointed. He is required to pay no tuition, but if his work lies in departm ents where laboratory fees are charged, he m ay be required to pay such fees.
