The method of selecting the Sweetheart differs from that of last year in that oft Iv five girls will be listed on the final ballot insteady of 25. It is hoped that this will prevent the many scattering votes of past years by allow ing students to concentrate on candidates that have a chance to win. In the two previous elections many ballots were of a complimentary nature rather than serious votes tor a girl that had a chance or success. It is hoped that students will realize the importance of selecting a Sw eetheart that will be truly representative of the I niver- sitv. In one respect this election is more, im portant than that of the Students’ Associa tion in that the successful candidate must present the University to the outside world. It is also important that defeated can didates and their friends not take a “sour- g rapes” attitude which was so noticeably after the last tw o elections. Skillful politi cal throat-cutting may have some excuse before the election is held since give-and- take is one of the most valuable lessons of co lleg e life, but to maintain bitterness and dissension after th e election is decided is both a mark of childishness and an in * direct slap at the I diversity. „ „ Building at A. & M. Oil money from the University’s oil lands j is making possible a building program at Texas A. & M. College as well as at the University. Th*1 first excavations have been | made for the buildings in a $2,OOO,00b building program. A w hole system of buildings is being planned which will bring the plant at College Station up to its needs. Last year the University and A. & M. officials agreed to a division ot the income from the oil money that had accrued from the leases of University land. Atter 1984 A. & M. will receive one-third of the avail able building revenue. A constitutional am endment passed last year made possible t h e expenditure ot a large amount of money immediately, to he repaid to the permanent fund from tilt* in t e r e s t of the remainder of t h e permanent fund.
