Store Closed W ednesday to Observe Armistice Day STUNTS Favorable comment was forthcoming from the audience in the west side of th e Stadium, Saturday on the excellent shov ing of the T e x a s rooting section. Particularly impressed was the au dience with the spelling out of the word " T e n s ” by means of the orange and white cards. Credit, it might be stated here, should tie given those Texas rooters who braved the chill air of the evening and appeared in their white shirts in order to make the letters more effective. The solid block of Texas rooters stood out in sharp contrast to cither students in the rooting sec tion, and when t*he orange cards flashed amlong the white as each • fttf, letter was made, the effect at a distance was mighty good. Had the students who sat on the end of the le tte r s been just a little bit more can ful in following the instructions which were printed on the cards, th e outline of the letter would have been better. As it was, there were a dozen or more on the outside of each letter who failed to turn their card according to the s ig n a ls , which did not make the lot to** as effective as they might other lf the rooters are again trained in forming the wise have been, letters at the Arizona game Saturday. The I exan b e lie v e s that the stunt will make a mighty big hit with the Thanksgiving crowd. The Texan is of th e opinion that BUI Rippey started some thing when he introduced the forming of the letters at the foot ball gainer. It i* a move in Wje Aught direction for the securing of some kind of stunts between nfftves. Not only does the m a k in g of the letters add some color to the game, hut the c o n c e r te d action of the r o o te r s in handling the cards to make the letters give the student s o m e th in g to do be sides j u s t s i t t i n g in the Stadium f t m f y e llin g his head off. Cheer ing until one is hoarse is all right and should be done at every game, but the forming of the word “Texas” gives the student a part in some stunt. Ordinary stunts do not require the service of more than a dozen. The “ Texas stunt requires the time ut at least 500 students. The stunt should lie worked on until the rooters make per Field fee t letters, and it should hi; used by all means at Kyle Thanksgiving. _ (tart, you “Don’t be an ass,’* wrote Erasmus. “It is enough that you display all our conversations and opinions, but when it comes to our petty grive- anCes, you are going a good deal too You never were a genius at know. But the advantages oi having competent judges decide which side is the better is pointed out in a recent editorial in the Minnesota Daily. “Should Minnesota follow the dictates of rival schools rn es tablishing her policies in intercollegiate relations, or should she abide by those which have proved to lie of most value to her “This question arose out of a dispute following Illinois re fusal to longer employ the critic Judge decisions in the annual Minnesota-IUinois-Iowa debate triangle, bor several^vears Illi nois has expressed a desire to establish ‘no-decision debating among the Universities of the Northwest. This year the school at Urbana went so far as to seek the co-operation of The I Diver sity of Iowa, the third member of the triangle, and received from them a tentative agreement to abolish the critic judge decisions. n o t There have been influences which have made it hard to stick by those ideals which you brought here with you. Y’our resistance to drinking laziness in studying, dishonesty in written work, and laxness in moral habits has probably been materially reduced. “ But you should know,’’ he wrote, “that it simply does not do for a member of the faculty to be men in the way you have men Honed tioned me.
