Big, manly, handsome, and magnetic in screen personality, his role of a partial crip ple and war hero presents him to his:! many “ fans” of both sexes in a new way, but a peculiarly fitting yay, inasmuch as it gives him new acting j possibilities and a chance for putting the real-life John Bowers on the screen. The* facts are that in real Iif e , :| It is a well known fact that Bowers is a world-war hero also. The story, by Rudyard Kipling, tells of artist who Dick Heldar, a young leaves London, a dismal failure only to retu rn — the talk of England, hav ing achieved success by his war sketches during the British occupa tion of the Soudan. Maisie Wells, Dick’s childhood sweetheart, encourages him to devote his time to painting a great picture. Heldar does this, employing as model, Bessie Broke, a street girl. Dick in terferes in Bessie’s love romance with Torpenhow, a newspaper correspond ent, and in revenge Bessie destroys Dick’s portrait of herself which he had finished the night before he be came totally blind. Maisie cares for Dick in his affliction and the picture closes with the pair happily reunited. Jacqueline Logan finely portrays tiie role of Bessie Broke while Dick Heldar is played by Percy Marmont. Sigrid Holmquist is Maisie Wells and David Torrence is excellently cast as Torpenhow. Those appearing in tho support include Mabel Van Buren, Luke Cosgrave.
