It simply d oes n t sound good to him. And beautiful music is no more necessarily beautiful to all people than is beautiful literature. During his stay in the I niversity his vocabulary grows, lie is enabled to understand different shades of word meanings. The same should be true musically speaking. A student should graduate with a great er appreciation, a more responsive sensibility t<> music than when he t ame here. But one does not become more appreciative of litera ture by having been dosed by an armful of classical writ ing all at once. More often such a procedure has a te n dency to turn him against complex literature, ami he may come back around to it after a long rest or he may not. The same applies to music and other fine arts. Some to blasts and b l a s t s ut believe that, by being exposed Chopin music, a person will naturally come to like if. This I may be true in some cases, but more often it is not. To the credit of the community concerts, those stu dents who went to the programs were given a type of high class entertainment which they enjoyed. I hey were programs at which the musical intellectuals and the lay-, man student could find mutual enjoyment. They seem to have complied with the demands of the cultural evol.J*. t ion ary s t a g e through which student are parsing. So long as we do not have the p r o p e r facilities with Which to educate students musically, we will have to de pend upon such organizations as the Community ( onceit Association to do m o s t ol ti e educating. It is well that this one offers an economical, enjoyable, educational d i s h .
