Abstract
To study the properties of bacteria which are pertinent to the microbiological corrosion of iron in natural marine environments: (1) bacterial consumption of oxygen and subsequent production of oxygen differential corrosion cells, (2) the production of corrosive acids, and (3) microbial hydrogenase enzyme activity and its effect on the depolarization of metallic iron surfaces
