A variety of Schiff base ligands have been prepared, and employed to synthesize and characterize a number of 3d-4f heteronuclear Schiff base complexes. The complexes were characterization primarily by X-ray crystallographic studies. In several cases unusual transformation of the ligands into novel heterocyclic species was observed and these groups were also found to behave as effective ligands to metal centers.
