This annual report is about the excavations in the territory of Metaponto in 1981 and 1982. The major aim of these excavations is to trace the vicissitudes of the rural population, the inhabitants of the territory surrounding the important Greek colonial city of Metaponto, throughout the period of Greek and Roman occupation of the area. The report describes the excavation of various rural settlements at Metaponto; the excavation of a necropolis and a sanctuary at Pizzica-Pantanello; and the excavation of a farmhouse at Sant' Angelo Grieco.
