Description

The three years of desolating war in Mexico which resulted in the triumph, by the end of 1860, of the party that supported the constitution of 1857, was something more than a mere continuation of Mexico's interminable civil turmoils. Basic principles were at issue. It was a period replete with political, social, and diplomatic, in addition to military, interest. The late Genaro García's priceless collection of contemporary documents, writings, and correspondence, in the University of Texas Library, renders it possible to resurrect the period and to make it live with the thoughts, deeds, and struggles of the actors in that stirring drama
