Abstract

Although Mexican Americans have long been prolific and influential in terms of music composition and recording, the documentation and analysis of this fundamental aspect of Chicano culture have lagged behind the creative output of its artists. The purpose of this bibliography is to give the reader an introduction to the musical art, artists, and audience of Americans of Mexican descent. Moreover, it reveals the various perspectives of scholars, aficionados, and critics toward their subjects. The authors reveal different aspects of the Chicano community as expressed by its artists and understood by its audience on both abstract and visceral levels. Most of the publications cited are located in the Benson Latin American Collection although some are housed in other campus libraries.
