Description
Bennett jokingly explains the meaning of an Aegean-ish character he ran across, provides Palaima with his apartment's new telephone number, and complains about fireworks during the lead-up to the Fourth of July.
We thank Professor Palaima for sititng down with us and shedding light on features of this letter, such as which John Bennett was referring to. The letter is a joke built off a real article by Paul Faure in BCH vol. 89. The footnote, written sinistroverse with characters dextroverse, reads "my axe has lost its edge!"
