dc.descriptionThis study is intended to be a record of events which transpired in Hamilton County, Texas, between 1854 and 1954. The account begins with a discussion of the geography and resources of Hamilton County, factors which have influenced the economic and social conditions of the county. Chronologically, the story begins with the first settlements and the organization of the county. This is then followed by a period of retardation during the Civil War; frontier life from 1860 to 1880; the influence of the railroads on the county; and the effect of the automobile era on the economic and social development of the people. The study concludes with a chapter on towns and communities
