Kommunalka: A Thin-Walled Memory Palace in Sound is an anthology concept album of soundscapes, sound art, and documentary vignettes which explores the Soviet communal apartment as a sonic memory palace. As an audio-only narrative, it presents collective and personal memories in a format which engages the listener’s active imagination. The kommunalka, a type of Soviet residential building with famously thin walls, serves as both content and form, as it provides a setting for disparate stories, ideas, and motives.
