Abstract
Description
Trios, quartets, quintets; reeds, brass, singers, poets. Each setting serves as fertile environment in which we perform compositions by Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joe Henderson, and other references of Afrological improvised music. You'll hear inflections of bass-n-drum, hip-hop, funk, samba, modifying and yet paying homage to melodies and chord progressions devised by masters of modern music. These masters embody an esthetic of liberation, a tradition of struggle. Our respectful and sometimes unconventional approaches recognize this tradition and draw inspiration from it. The music is a moment in collective dreams beyond our various plantations. As serious as our lives, sometimes fast, sometimes hurried, sometimes lazy, sometimes frenzied, transed, the collective performs with the urgency of our times. No peace. http://www.myspace.com/3jazzcollective
