Abstract
This paper is a case study that examines the planning process surrounding the routing of 1-40 through North Nashville and the implications of this decision on the health of the community. This report will suggest that the routing of 1-40 through North Nashville not only contributed to the social and economic decline of the community, but, more importantly, undermined neighborhood confidence that fairness and equity could be achieved through the planning process.
