Description
Women have always provided medical care; however, in the modern Western medical tradition, women were not always welcome to train as doctors. This materials in this display illuminate the experiences of women in medicine. We’ve included biographies of early female doctors like Elizabeth Blackwell and Rebecca Lee Crumpler, medical texts and histories by women doctors, and even fiction that imagines the lives of women in medicine throughout history. We hope this collection of materials will illustrate women’s struggle to be accepted as doctors, especially in the West, and how integral women are to the modern heath care infrastructure
