Description
This analysis of the preparation, experience, and rating of Texas Junior college language instructors was undertaken with the general purpose of learning something about conditions as they actually existed at the time that the survey was made. As the study progressed, however, it evolved into an attempt to find answers to the following specific questions: 1. To what extent do students and administrators agree in their appraisal of these language teachers as indicated by their respective ratings on the Purdue Scale--both on individual traits and on total averages? 2. To what extent do means on the various traits and the total averages as established by this study for Texas Junior college language instructors agree with the norms already established for the Purdue Rating Scale for Instructors, the majority of whom are university professors? 3. Is the teacher, who has the higher degree, superior, as measured by the ratings of students and administrators on the ten traits on the Purdue Rating Scale, to the one who has only a bachelor's degree? That is, are higher degrees associated with higher ratings? 4. Is there any evidence of a significant relationship between the ratings of the language instructors on the ten traits on the Purdue Scale and the (1) age, (2) sex, and (3) experience of the instructor? 5. Is there any evidence of a positive relationship between the ratings assigned by the students and administrators to the ten traits on the Purdue Rating Scale and the amount of training the instructor has had in his teaching field? 6. Is there any evidence of a positive relationship between the ratings assigned by the students or administrators to those traits or skills as listed on the Purdue Rating Scale and the Number of Hours of Professional Training the instructor has had?
