This thesis is a travel memoir recounting Abigail's experience studying abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the spring of 2020. In it, she explores many aspects of Scottish history and culture, including the Scottish Gaelic language, Scottish independence, and the way Scots relate to the landscape around them. It is also a coming-of-age story, as Abigail learns to live and travel on her own. Finally, the thesis discusses the COVID-19 pandemic, which cut Abigail's semester abroad short, and what this might mean for the future of travel. She argues that travel is an important experience that makes us question our perspective and see the world in a new light.
