Abstract

Description

The hands of gentrification are slowly uprooting the foundation of Austin with soaring property taxes that are forcing Austinites out of their homes. Families like my mother’s, who have been here for more than 90 years, are among the pioneers of the Mexican American communities that are facing gentrification. Though the days of tradition are fading beneath the sparkling infrastructure of investors, our story is vital in understanding and preserving Austin’s true origins.
