Description

The members of the project in Social [Studies] in Casis Elementary School, Austin, Texas designed a curriculum that they thought would help children to generalize in terms of eight ideas or principles which are considered basic in the social sciences. Observations were made in grades one, two, three, five, and six as generalizations no. 1 and 2 were being taught. Thirty-seven days were spent in the classroom by the observer. After recording the children's responses, they were analyzed to determine (1) if the children were generalizing and (2) if they were understanding the related generalizations. Methods of instruction were interpreted to determine some of the factors that enabled the children to generalize
