Daughters from the Bellybutton of the Moon: Intergenerational Chicana Poetry

Abstract

Department

Description

Chicano translates roughly from Nahuatl to mean from the bellybutton of the moon. Chican@s, then, by (re)claiming and identifying with the term, affirm their roots as 'children from the bellybutton of the moon,' signifying pride in the dual cultural expressions of being Mexican Americans in the US. This intergenerational exhibit explores the contribution of Chicana feminists to the Chicano Movement through their poetry.
