dc.description.abstractWhile the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans is best known as a genetic model system, recent advances in biology have led some researchers to reconsider this small nematode in its natural context. In the last decade, hundreds of C. elegans strains have been isolated from the wild and whole-genome sequenced. These new population genetic resources have enabled the application of powerful complementary techniques to this well-characterized animal. Here, I apply genome-wide association to two complex polygenic traits in wild populations of C. elegans: magnetosensation & alcohol response.
