Abstract
This paper examines some empirical evidence on the training backgrounds of union members working in supervisory capacities as foremen, lead journeymen, general foremen, and superintendents. The hypothesis is that graduates of formal apprenticeship programs advance more rapidly to supervisory positions and are more heavily represented in those positions than workers who have not served apprenticeships.
