By a fortunate coincidence the writer discovered Morfi's History of Texas in the National Library of Mexico. For a long time this work was known only by name and its existence had come to be doubted. It is, however, the most complete and detailed account known to the present for the entire period from 1673 to 1779. Convinced of its importance for the study of the history of Spanish Texas, the writer here presents for the first time a critical edition of this work with such information on the life of the author as he has been able to find
