Description
A genetic and cytological analysis of a number of deletions and translocations made possible the placing of the following gene loci along the X-chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster: prune, white, facet, split, echinus, cut, vermilion, forked and Beadex. The locus of white lies on or very near one line, and vermilion in the left-hand portion of a complex band. The other genes are restricted to areas covered by only a few bands. So far the evidence suggests that the genes lie within the chromatic areas. The relative merits of deletions and translocations in mapping work are discussed
