Description
This article describes a protest outside the capital of the province of Jujuy. People from Abra Pampa, mostly women, stayed overnight in the street to protest the government’s lack of action. The protesters claim that since the march that happened months before, nothing has been done. Sergio Zerpa, the director of the protest, says that the agreement from July called for the re-starting the remediation efforts to clean up the industrial contamination. He says that this has not happened. The protesters planned a mock crucifixion for the following day. Zerpa claims that the government is just joking around with them (“tomando el pelo”). All protesters agree with what the priest Jesús Olmedo said, specifically that they should declare a food emergency in La Puna, the region where they live, because food is too expensive.
