dc.description.abstractA facility was developed at The University of Texas at Austin which consists of a 10 cm neutron beam that resembles a Watt fission spectrum with an integral flux of 1.03×10⁶ n-cm⁻²s⁻¹ at a reactor power of 950 kW. This facility was characterized to accurately determine the neutron flux spectrum. A pneumatic system, with transfer times of less than one second, was used to perform cyclic neutron activation analysis to determine fission-energy neutron induced fission yields. To reduce the complexity of analyzing the γ-spectrum with many interferences, γ − γ coincidence was performed using two high purity germanium (HPGe) detectors. The project aims to develop these techniques to reduce the uncertainty of fission yields for short-lived fission products of interest for post-detonation nuclear forensics.
