Description

In this paper I have tried to tell clearly and impartially the story of the Secession Movement in Texas. The first chapter deals with the growth of the political parties in Texas. This is discussed with the purpose of showing the background of the movement, and that Secession was not the work of a few months. The succeeding chapter deals with the political campaigns of 1860 and the popular call of the First Secession Convention. The later chapters through a discussion of the work of the Convention, attempt to show that the passing of an ordinance of secession was the inevitable result of the combination of circumstances, and that the work of the Convention was accepted by a vote of the people
