Brazilian television in the 1980's : the making of "Brazilianized" culture
Herold, Cacilda M.
My aim in this thesis is to investigate the formation of Brazilian culture(s), the historical development of Brazilian television, the concept of "Brazilianization" of that industry, and the most recent trend, i.e., the exporting of Brazilian television programs during the 1980's. Given that "[t]elevision is a human construct, and the job that it does is the result of human choice, cultural decisions and social pressures" (Fiske and Hartley 1978, p. 17), Brazilian television needs to be seen as an expression of the socio-political, cultural, and economic order of that country within the international economic and political context. Therefore, I will place the study of Brazilian television within an understanding of the country's socio-political, cultural and economic order
