Abstract

The period of the recent history of Peru known as the internal armed conflict resulted in almost 70,000 deadly victims between 1980 and 2000. A large part of society in Peru have traumatic memories of the time that the guerrilla group Sendero Luminoso and the Peruvian state were involved in a near point of civil war, but Ayacucho was the province with the greatest loss of lives in this context, with an estimate of 26,000 victims, mostly indigenous populations. After the ending of the conflict, memory has been expressed in several different narratives, depending on who is the author, where they are located, and their relationship with power structures. Using ethnographical data obtained in the summer of 2018, this thesis addresses questions to analyze the diverging narratives of memory in museums, memorials, monuments and other sites of memory in post-conflict Peru
