The increased adoption of electric vehicles by consumers is likely in the near future, and currently lithium-ion batteries are the preeminent technology for electric vehicles, suchas those manufactured by Tesla.Given this scenario, it isalsolikely that the extraction of lithium willrise in the future and certain countries may benefit from this increased extraction.Bolivia is one of these countriesas it has one of the world’s largest deposits of lithium. However,it isreadily apparent thatnatural resource extraction canalsocome with unique and significant challenges, and manygovernments have failed to properly managetheir natural resource wealth. Therefore, my thesis question is, how should the national government of Bolivia best manage the extraction of its lithium deposits?Drawing upon the Natural Resource Charter,Isystematicallyexamine the Bolivian government’sability to doso, andI identify particularchallenges towards natural resource governance that thenational government faces.I conclude by summing these challenges and by offering recommendations forthese particular issues.
