Race, Crime, And Police Pay: A Study Incompensating Wage Differentials
MetadataShow full item record
This paper is an exploration of factors impacting police pay. The goal of this paper is to isolate the impact of crime on police pay to measure the compensating wage differential resulting from on-the-job danger for police officers (as measured by violent crime rates). In addition, the analysis allows the estimated compensating differential to vary with the race of the individual policeofficer as well as with the demographic composition of the police departments and populations served. Previous work on the determinants of police pay informs the analysis, including the empirical measures, regression specification, and control variables.
