This paper won the 2010 Signature Course Information Literacy Award. The award recognizes exemplary student work that achieves the learning outcomes of the Signature Course information literacy requirement, which are that students will be able to create and execute a research strategy, critically evaluate information, and use citations. This paper was nominated by Dr. Ian Hancock from the Department of Linguistics and was submitted in his Signature Course "The Price of Identity: Romani Reality and Gypsy Myth." This paper was chosen for its incorporation of a variety of sources into a sophisticated and well-documented analysis of a very complex topic.
