Visible Cities (2013)
Abstract
The FAL is proud to present the recent work submitted in Spring
2013 by UT art and design students. Designed by Prof. Leslie
Mutchler for 304K Two-Dimensional Design, the "Visible Cities"
project is intended to challenge a student's color-mixing skills,
gouache technique, knowledge of color terminology and spatial
creativity. Inspired by Italio Calvino's text "Visible Cities", each
student creates images of four cities, each city on a separate
10" x 10" illustration board. In addition, each panel incorporates
at least one of the Seven Color Contrasts proposed by legendary
Bauhaus painter and theorist Johannes Itten.
