The Altar de Muertos (Altar of the Dead), as a part of the celebration of Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead), was a traditional memorial altar and calaveras exhibit held throughout the month of November in 2016. The altar paid tribute to Mexican journalists and activists whose voices were silenced through violence and coercion. Sugar skulls, flowers, candles, plastic food items, and other memorabilia were placed on a three tiered altar with photographs of the deceased. Two posters were present to give context to the tradition of altars and information about the deceased.
