A Flux Linkage-Based Approach to Coaxial Accelerator Analysis

This paper presents an alternative approach to the analysis of coaxial electromagnetic accelerators. The traditional formulation of the state equations expresses accelerator performance in terms of instantaneous stator and armature currents. The alternative presented in this paper treats coaxial accelerator behavior in terms of flux linkages. Because flux linkages remain constant in the absence of losses and applied voltages, additional physical insight is gained using this approach.
